When you have coverage under multiple insurance plans, it's important to understand how claims are handled so that you can maximize your benefits.
Here's how Atlas Direct’s insurance plan handles claims when you also have coverage under other insurance plans, too:
- Non-Coordinated Benefits: Atlas Direct’s insurance plan is classified as a non-coordinated benefit, which means it pays claims independently of any other insurance you may have. As a result, it will pay the fixed amount specified for any covered event regardless of what any other insurance plan that you may also have decides to pay for the same event.
- Direct Payments to You: Atlas Direct’s insurance plan pays its fixed-indemnity benefits directly to you, the covered person, rather than to healthcare providers. This gives you the flexibility to use the benefit payments for any purpose, including covering out-of-pocket expenses, paying non-medical bills, or other financial needs.
- Complementing Other Insurance: If you have a comprehensive major-medical plan, you may find that Atlas Direct’s insurance plan may complement your existing coverage very well. The fixed-indemnity payments from Atlas Direct’s insurance plan can help cover the out-of-pocket costs—such as deductibles, copays, and coinsurance—that may be required by your major-medical plan. Those fixed indemnity payments may also help to cover expenses related to services not covered by your major-medical plan.
- Claim-Filing Process: Claims are processed by our business partner, Administrative Concepts Incorporated (ACI). To file a claim, go to portal.acitpa.com/atlas where you can set up a claims account, fill out the online Medical Claim Form, and upload any required documentation, such as itemized medical bills. Claims can also be submitted to ACI using U.S. postal mail at the following address: ACI, PO Box 4000, Collegeville, PA 19426-9000. For information on how to submit a claim by mail, please call the ACI customer support line at 888-585-9034.
