The Atlas Direct insurance plan does not provide comprehensive maternity coverage.

The only maternity benefits offered by our plan are a vaginal-delivery benefit that pays $5,000 per vaginal delivery and a caesarean-delivery benefit that pays $8,000 per C-section delivery.

Thus, please note that those two childbirth benefits are definitely not a substitute for the extensive array of maternity benefits that are typically offered by comprehensive major-medical plans, such as prenatal care, childbirth and breastfeeding classes, treatments for postpartum depression, and treatments for pregnancy complications.

Also note that in most states, the Atlas Direct coverage documents define a “delivery” as the process of giving birth irrespective of the number of infants delivered. Thus, for example, the vaginal-delivery benefit will pay a flat $5,000 irrespective of whether a claim is made for a single delivery, twins, or triplets.

Also note that, in most states, there is a 12-month waiting period, starting from the coverage effective date, for both the vaginal-delivery benefit and the cesarean-delivery benefit.
