Atlas Direct's benefit payments cannot be assigned to medical service providers. That is because Atlas Direct’s insurance plan will make its benefit payments exclusively to you, the covered person, rather than to any hospital, doctor, medical group, or other service provider.

As background, please understand that many other insurance policies allow for the “assignment” of benefits payments, meaning that insurance payments will flow to the service provider rather than to the covered person.

For any such assignment of benefits to happen, though, it is necessary for the service provider to get the patient to sign an Assignment of Benefits form. If the patient does that, then, with most insurance policies, insurance payments will flow to the provider rather than to the patient.

The Atlas Direct insurance plan, by contrast, has language that states that all benefits payments will go exclusively to the covered person rather than to service providers. Thus, even if you do happen to sign an Assignment of Benefits form, we will ignore it because assignments of benefits are impossible under our plan. As a result, your Atlas Direct benefits payments will always flow directly to you, the covered person, irrespective of whether you have signed or not signed an Assignment of Benefits form.

In addition, please note that you will be legally free to do whatever you want to do with that money, including using it to pay for medical services. But that decision is 100% yours and we will not honor Assignment of Benefit forms that are presented to us by providers, even if you signed them.
